Apr 26: Mexico City in the middle of the Swine Flu Outbreak

In a city with a population over 9 million people, and 20 million taco vendors, traffic congestion is the norm. But, during the swine flu outbreak the city was ghostly quiet and empty. Everywhere you looked, people were covering their faces with surgical masks, although most reports say that there is no real evidence that surgical masks will provide much protection from the flu. On this day, I traveled to the downtown area around the Pallacio de Bellas Artes and Zocalo to see how life has changed for the local population. [View Photos]
